If a picture is worth a thousand words, here's our take:

the rivers

Chose among the best rivers for fly fishing in Patagonia. You’ll get recommendations according to the techniques you want to practice, the weather conditions and the places that have less fishing pressure.

Chimehuin river

The Chimehuin is known for the famous phrase of fisherman Joe Brooks: «This was the best fishing day of my life». It is a great freestone river. It is perfect for float fishing, sight fishing, and exploration with streamers, nymphs and dry flies.

Collón Curá river

The Collón Curá is a river with slow and calm waters. It has one of the most prolific trout fishing in all of Patagonia. Without a doubt, it is an essential river. It is surrounded by willows and high sandstone cliffs. The trouts of Collon Cura are exceptional fighters, and they have a very good size.

Aluminé river

Aluminé is a fluctuating river that receives water from many other rivers such as the Pulmari, the Quillen, the Kilka and the Malleo. This makes it a complex and exciting river. Because it has so many variations along its course, it allows you to practice different techniques in its different sections. It’s a classic whitewater river, which can be fished by floating, waterfalls and wading. The river is full of rainbows and browns that can be fished with dries, nymphs and streamers.

Malleo river

The Malleo is a classic freestone river, ideal for wading and searching for fighting trouts. This river is well known among dry fly enthusiasts throughout the region for its spectacular caddis and mayfly hatches.

Limay river

The lower Limay river is a tailwater that flows from the Pichi Picún Leufú dam for 96 kilometers before emptying into the huge El Chocón dam. Because is so extensive, it offers fishermen a rich and varied river system populated by rainbow and brown trouts.

Quilquihue river

The Quilquihue River is a affluent of the Chimehuin River, and it originates in Lake Lolog. It’s located only 12 km from the city of San Martin de Los Andes. It’s suitable only for wading and is ideal for those who want to have fun or learn to fly fish. It is populated by many rainbows and browns between 500 gr and 1 kg.

the species you can fish

Patagonia is a privileged place on planet earth. You can find very small streams, to huge giants like the Limay. Fishing in these places is priceless.

Besides, trout were introduced a little more than 100 years ago. With no natural predators, these animals reached incredible sizes and Patagonia became a paradise for fly fishing.

brown trout

The brown trout has adapted perfectly to the Patagonian waters. Many reach trophy size, because they feed almost exclusively on other fish, including other brown trouts. In Patagonia, brown trouts can weigh up to 10 kg.

rainbow trout

Rainbow trouts are big predators. They eat like hungry teenagers: insects, small fish and crustaceans. They also eat fish eggs, including the eggs of other rainbow trout… even dead body parts! Their beautiful colors make them very pretty in pictures.

Fontinalis trout

This is one of the most beautiful fish a fisherman can catch in Patagonia. Fontinalis trout weight up to 5 kilos.

They are very rare! This is because they have very little tolerance to pollution and because they are not as aggressive as rainbows and browns. The presence of Fontinalis trout denotes waters of tremendous purity and very stable temperatures throughout the year. If your hook manages to capture one of them, you can consider yourself lucky.

Choose the mode you like best

Every fisherman has their own style. What is yours?

wading

We walk along the river looking for the right structures or moments for fishing.

In many occasions the fishing is done by sight, so we live situations with a lot of adrenaline.

There is nothing better than seeing a trout when it is heading for our fly!

floating

Instead of walking along the river, you’ll get on an inflatable raft, embarked to go fishing.

This method is very useful to reach strategic places or to escape from sectors with higher fishing pressure.

our favorite moment: eating in the middle of nature

We are as much of a host as our grandmothers. We love when our guests eat, replenish their strength and enjoy their fishing day. We prepare the food with a lot of love and with all the details so that you can enjoy it in the middle of nature.

Tablecloths, cutlery, comfortable lounge chairs.

Appetizers, main course, dessert and drinks.

A whole day to disconnect from the routine.

Details are the invisible architecture of life

Of course we do! Send us an email to info@kunturflyfishing.com and we’ll gladly send you a quotation. You can also find us on Whatsapp if you have any questions.

Absolutely! We are prepared to take care of whole families. We have taken ours many times already and everyone has a lot of fun! We love when everyone is participating, learning and enjoying.

No need at all. The programmes are of low physical difficulty. You don’t have to have previous experience either.

There is no coverage and/or internet in most of the places we go. But we are connected by VHF radio to guarantee your safety.

All the guides of our team are trained to respond to an inconvenience, both in first aid and in water rescue. Safety is the priority at all times.

If you ask us, take some technical and warm clothing. During the day the temperatures can vary a lot. We recommend that you dress in various layers, like an onion, to adapt to the weather.

For wading, there is no age limit. For floating, the minimum age is 13 and they must be accompanied by an adult.

In some months (such as November and May) they can increase their flow significantly. However, this is not a limitation when it comes to fishing. According to the height of the rivers our guides will decide in which way and in which place we’ll go fishing.

In some fishing trips we use large or heavy equipment (7# and #8) and in other ultra-light equipment (#3 and #4). If you have availability of equipment, bring it with you. But remember that we will lend you ours if you don’t have it. (in all sizes!)

Fly fishing in Patagonia has a defined season
from 1 November to 31 May. The most interesting months are January, February and the first half of March. From June 1 to October 31, fishing is prohibited for all fly fishermen… except for some dams that are are open throughout the year. This way, the spawning and reproduction of salmonids period is respected.

In all cases! In order for all of us to continue to enjoy fishing, the most important thing is to take care of the environment. We believe in healthy sport fishing, and from the water we only take memories (and cool pictures)

This could be you!
